A band in transition stuck gold on this oft overlooked album. Before “Don’t Stop Belivin'” oversaturated the airwaves, before they were truly popular enough to be ridiculed by fans of “real” or “true” rock (not that they don’t deserve a ribbing for many efforts), Steve Perry took charge vocally, Neal Schon readied his guitar for the arena, and the band charged full steam ahead.
